Originally assigned in my Modern Art History class as a study of an artist of my choice, this piece is a study/recreation of Gustav Corbet's 'The Bathers' but in my own fantastical flavor. Courbet wasn't afraid to shamelessly depict the female form despite negative reception from critics, especially in an chaste context where none of the women in the painting were acknowledging the viewer, but rather, just living their lives.
This piece in particular was fun, figuring out how their bodies would react with the water, managing where I focused detail to create a believable background, and ensuring their poses looked relaxed.
These two women are my water elf characters, Nereida and Kaielle, both characters for my project Laefallen.
